MY PRIORITIES

We cannot move Blue Valley forward without addressing what has happened to our students, teachers, staff, and community over the past eighteen months.

SUPPORT STUDENT, TEACHER, AND STAFF MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS

  • In recent years, Blue Valley has put increasing emphasis on the role of mental and physical health in our students’ overall well-being. With the many challenges of the last year, prioritizing mental health is an even higher priority.

  • I will be a strong advocate for the Blue Valley Strategic Plan 2020-2025. This plan, which was developed with significant input from the community, emphasizes the importance of providing extraordinary educational opportunities so all students have a path to achieving health and well-being, in addition to academic excellence.

  • As outlined in the Strategic Plan, we must also support the teachers and staff who will bring it to life for our students and also focus on their mental health and wellness.

RECOVER FROM PANDEMIC LEARNING LOSSES

  • As our community continues to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, we must keep kids learning safely, in-person, at all levels.

  • We also need to assess gaps in academic and social-emotional learning, identify ways to address these gaps, and support all our students as we transition to post-pandemic school and learning.

SAFEGUARD BLUE VALLEY'S POSTION AS A LEADER IN EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • We need to retain our outstanding teachers and staff while also recruiting new, top talent from a diverse group of candidates. We need to listen to and support our teachers to make sure Blue Valley continues to be one of the best places in Kansas to work.

  • Excellent academics are essential, but what makes Blue Valley truly exceptional is the many other opportunities our students enjoy, including music and arts, athletics, and college, career and job readiness programs, such as the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS).

  • I will advocate for fully funding our schools and draw on my finance background to ensure that our resources are well-utilized so our students continue to benefit from a rich, well-rounded educational experience.
